We are currently accepting reservations for the 2017 Volcano Boat Tours.

*NOTE: due to road construction, delays of 30-45 minutes are likely when traveling to Cleetwood Cove. We recommend leaving the Rim Village 2.5 hours ahead of your tour departure, and Mazama Village 3 hours ahead of your tour departure. In addition to traffic delays, boat tours to Wizard Island are currently unavailable due to repairs needed for one of the boats. We apologize for any inconvenience and will update this website as more information becomes available.

A FANTASTIC PERSPECTIVE OF THE LAKE

Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States, and one of the deepest in the world. One of the best ways to experience Crater Lake National Park is to take a Standard Lake cruise around Crater Lake, or for the truly adventurous, choose one of the options to spend time on Wizard Island. Whichever tour you choose, you will need to hike approximately 1.1 miles down to the boat dock. Due to the strenuous nature of the hiking requirements to access the boat dock, these tours are not recommended for anyone with medical or physical problems that may limit them from this exertion.

The Standard Lake Cruise will allow you to learn about the history, geology, and cultural significance of the lake, while viewing the natural beauty of the caldera from the boat.

The Wizard Island tour option includes morning and afternoon departures, and allows for time to hike to the summit of Wizard Island and enjoy the phenomenal panoramic view. Either departure includes the full lake tour and three hours at Wizard Island.

The Wizard Island shuttle option also includes morning and afternoon departures, and allows for time to hike to the summit of Wizard Island and enjoy the phenomenal panoramic view, or simply fish or even swim. The Wizard Island shuttle is for those guests wanting to go to and from Wizard Island, without a tour of the lake.

Weather permitting, the boat cruises are scheduled to operate daily TBD* through September 10, 2017, with limited advance reservations accepted for tours scheduled between July 14, 2017 and September 4, 2017. Not all seats can be reserved in advance, remaining seats will be sold through our self-service kiosks located in the lobby of Crater Lake Lodge and inside the Annie Creek Gift Shop at Mazama Village up to 24 hours prior to departure. For the tour dates before and after the advance reservation period, limited tickets will also be sold through our self-service kiosks up to 24 hours prior to departure.

Schedules provided are based upon weather permitting and are subject to change. It is recommended to allow at least one and a half hours (90-minutes) prior to the boat trip for travel from the Lodge/Rim Village to Cleetwood Cove. If tours are canceled, we will do our best to accommodate guests with advance reservations on the next available tour or we will issue a refund of the deposit.

Standard Lake Cruises

Standard Volcano Boat Cruises depart from the north side of Crater Lake at Cleetwood Cove and are approximately 2 hours in length. Guests must make the 1.1-mile hike on Cleetwood Trail to access the lake and boat dock. This hike can be very strenuous, as it drops approximately 700-feet, and it may take 30 to 45 minutes to descend the trail. These cruises offer a fantastic perspective of the lake as they travel counter-clockwise around the perimeter of Crater Lake. A Ranger from the National Park Service will be onboard the boat and on the island to offer cultural and natural history about Crater Lake. All guests will remain on the boat for the entire tour making stops at some special points along the way to view the beauty and formations of Crater Lake, including Wizard Island and Phantom Ship. Upon returning to the boat dock, it is time for the 1.1 mile hike out.
