2012 Volcano Boat Tours: T/B/D

At this time our 2012 Volcano Boat Cruise Tour schedule is not available. Please check back at a later date for more information. In the meantime, we've kept our 2011 information available for reference to general season, rates, ticket and tour specifics.

2011 Volcano Boat Tours:

July 25 – September 18, 2011
(Operation of the tours are based upon weather conditions and subject to change.)

Note: Typically the Volcano Boat Tours season runs from early July to mid-September (weather permitting).

The standard Volcano Boat Cruises depart from the north side of Crater Lake at Cleetwood Cove and are approximately 1-hour and 45-minutes in length. Guests must make the 1.1-mile hike on Cleetwood Trail to access the lake and boat dock.  This hike can be very strenuous, as it drops approximately 700-feet, and it may take 30 to 45 minutes to descend the trail.  These cruises offer a fantastic perspective of the lake as they travel counter-clockwise around the perimeter of Crater Lake.  An Interpretative Ranger from the National Park Service will be onboard the boat and offer cultural and natural history about Crater Lake.  All guests will remain on the boat for the entire tour making stops at some special points along the way to view the beauty and formations of Crater Lake, including Wizard Island and Phantom Ship.  Upon returning to the boat dock, it is time for the 1.1-mile hike out.  This hike can take an hour or more, and the 700-foot ascent in elevation is the equivalent of climbing more than 70-flights of stairs.  Due to the strenuous nature of the hiking requirements to access the boat dock, this tour is not recommended for anyone with medical or physical problems that may limit them from this exertion.

Wizard Island Tours

For more adventure, you may choose one of the Wizard Island Tours to be dropped off on Wizard Island for some additional hiking, exploration and beauty.  Guests on the morning Wizard Island Tour will have the choice of reserving the half-day (3-hour drop-off) or the full-day (6-hour drop-off, limited quantity).  Boats will return to the island to pickup guest at approximately 1:45 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.

Standard Tour Schedule (These tours do not stop at Wizard Island.):

  • 10:05 a.m.
  • 11:00 a.m.
  • 12:00 p.m.
  • 2:00 p.m.
  • 3:00 p.m.

Wizard Island Tour Schedule:

  • 9:55 a.m.
  • 1:00 p.m.

The above schedules are based upon weather permitting and are subject to change.

It is recommended to allow at least one and a half hours prior to the boat trip for travel from the Lodge/Rim Village to Cleetwood Cove.

Ticket Information

Advanced reservations are now being accepted for July 25 through September 18 of the 2011 season. Because of weather uncertainty, July 23 and 24 reservations will be subject to weather conditions and available seats will be sold first-come, first-served only.

Please note, advance reservations are for a limited quantity of tour seats. The remaining seats will be sold at automated, touch-screen, kiosks. There is a kiosk inside Crater Lake Lodge next to the Front Desk, and another inside the Annie Creek Gift Shop at Mazama Village. Guests can purchase both same day and next day tickets at a kiosk. There is a two hour sales cut off time at the kiosks to allow for travel time. Any tickets remaining after the sales cut off time will be available for purchase at the Cleetwood Cove parking lot, first come, first served.

The boat tours for the entire day sell-out very quickly, so advance reservations are recommended when possible. We encourage guests to check with the front desk for additional information and recommended departure times.

Note:
All guests must check-in with the Cleetwood Cove ticket booth in the parking lot to receive tickets before hiking down the trail.
